Adam & Eve were created with one supreme purpose - to have fellowship with God (ref Genesis 3:8). The Hebrew verb, halak, refers to repetitive and habitual movement in general.

GOD cares

According to Job 7:17-18, God is concerned about us and watches us every day. The inference being that He cares about us.

"That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ." [1 John 1:3; KJV]

So essentially, He wants an intimate and close relationship with each one of us. However, it is impossible for fallen man to have any relationship with a Holy God. It is essentially this, that the Lord God poses in the Book of Amos.

However, man in his fallen state, cannot save himself or do any “good". Furthermore, the Lord dislikes a person who is wise in his own eyes. The scripture states — “Thus saith t he LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” [Jeremiah 17:5; KJV]

There is an underlying motive for any work of charity by fallen man. This means we are incapable of doing “good".

Infact, the Mosaic law was provided to convict man of sin and make him realise that he needed Almighty God to save him.

… and that requires humility. HUMILITY is that bedrock upon which All other virtues are built on. Accordingly it is essential that an ardent seeker clothe himself/herself with it. If God hates anything it is Pride. “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” [James 4:6; KJV]

Humility is often not given the high place it should have. I personally have not heard any church emphasising it as one of the greatest of virtues. However, it is an undisputed fact that true humility is the bedrock on which all other virtues are built. It is directly related to our ability and willingness to learn. However, it comes only to the repentant. God wants us to be spiritually alive because He loves us and so forgives us our sins, as is made clear in scripture

Worship

Worship is both an attitude and an act. It is defined as a lifestyle, rather than a moment in time (ref 1 Corinthians 10:31) and is of prime importance to make us right with God. All true worshipers must worship God in "spirit and in truth", as the Lord in His discourse with the Samaritan woman said.

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” [John 4:23–24; KJV].

True worship, therefore is not only conversing with God and bringing our petitions before Him, but also has much to do with the attitude of the petitioner himself. This is brought out by King David when he says:

“Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits" [Psalm 103:1–2; KJV]

Worship pleasing to God must be unfeigned and transparent, offered with a humble and pure heart and for this Godly fear and reverence for the Almighty is essential.

“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.” [Psalm 24:3–4 ; KJV]

The Fear of the Lord

God is the Almighty Creator who should be loved, respected, held in awe, revered and feared. The Sovereign and omnipotent Father who delights in hearing from His children. This is what the Bible refers to as the ‘Fear of the Lord', something, we today would refer to as 'reverential fear’, for it is not a slavish fear or dread but rather reverence, obedience, love etc all rolled together into one

It is giving GOD His rightful preeminence. It is the keeping of the 1st and most important of all commandments. This small verse from Proverbs is an example 👇

“The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.” [Proverbs 19:23; KJV]
