Even if we did follow an expansionist agenda, it would be a given that all was well economically and politically in the country undertaking the venture — in this case, China. However, this is far from true. Analysts generally expect China's economy to grow by about 5% in 2022.
However the Chinese economy is plagued by many defects. Some are due to the vagaries of the weather but most of it is due to wrong policies of the government.
The one that is irreversible and looks like a one way ticket to hell is Problem of Demographics. The “One-child policy" was implemented to curb overpopulation and the resultant strain on the country's resources following its industrialization in the 1950s. Soon China found itself in a tight spot with its rapidly aging population. The birth rate in all developed countries is low, but the life there is largely automatic. Life in China is still largely manual.
In October 2015, the Chinese news agency Xinhua announced plans of the government to abolish the one-child policy. Now, Beijing wants couples to have 3 children but the parents are refusing to oblige particularly as it is very costly to bring up a child in China.
Now it has declared online education sites as “not for profit" companies. While this will bring down the cost associated with rising tuitions, other costs remain high. Also, it stifles innovation and entrepreneurship. Beijing now desperate, is dangling carrots before its citizens.
